03 September 2026 - In commemoration of the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, the Independent Institution on Missing Persons in Syria (IIMP) brought together families, survivors, civil society organizations, practitioners and experts in Berlin to reflect on truth-seeking, memorialization and collective healing for families of the missing.
The event, attended by Head of the Independent Institution Karla Quintana, provided a space for families and participants from Syria and beyond to share experiences and reflect on the role of memory and truth-seeking in the search for missing persons and beyond.
Memory and truth-seeking can help families find answers, contribute to preventing such violations from happening again, rebuild trust and help reconstruct the social fabric. Spaces of remembrance can be an important part of this process, honoring those who are missing and affirming families’ right to know the truth and continue the search.
Today, and every day, we stand with the families of the missing.
We thank all our speakers, partners and participants for their contributions to this important event.
