IIMP Welcomes New Advisory Board Member and Bids Farewell to Outgoing Member

The Independent Institution on Missing Persons in the Syrian Arab Republic (IIMP) extends its sincere appreciation to Ms. Yasmen Almashan, sister of five brothers that were lost during the conflict in Syria, including two that were forcibly disappeared, as she concludes her membership on the Institution’s Advisory Board.

We thank Yasmeen for her role in the establishment of the IIMP, her valuable contributions, and insights  as part of the Advisory Board. We look forward to maintaining our close collaboration in her current capacity as a member of the National Commission for Transitional Justice and continuing our shared efforts on the issue of missing persons in Syria.

The Independent Institution is also pleased to welcome Ms. Shireen Khero as a new member of its Advisory Board. A Yazidi survivor and tireless advocate for the rights of victims and their families since her release from captivity in 2017, Shireen brings extensive experience in advocating for survivors of ISIL (Da’esh) atrocities, particularly women and girls, and for families seeking answers about the fate and whereabouts of their missing loved ones.

Shireen’s experience and commitment will bring valuable perspectives to the Advisory Board, particularly in strengthening the representation of families and communities affected by ISIL (Da’esh) and ensuring that their voices remain central to the Institution’s work.

We look forward to working closely with Shireen as we continue to place families and victims at the heart of our mandate.
